Austin Junior Volleyball

About AJV: Overview

Mission Statement:

To Train Youth to Optimize Athletic Potential and Develop Life Skills Through Volleyball

What we are:

Austin Junior Volleyball is a non-profit youth organization founded in 1984 as a girl's volleyball club and has steadily grown over the years to include 35 teams of all levels ranging from 10 year olds to 18 year olds. The teams participate extensively throughout Texas and in other tournaments around the country from late November through early July.  This includes participating in National Qualifying tournaments, AAU Nationals, and the USA Volleyball National Championships.

In addition to fielding Central Texas' most competitive teams, Austin Junior Volleyball also runs several nationally recognized tournaments each spring.  These include the Tour of Texas Power League Qualifier, the ATX Showcase, Lone Star Regional Championships, the Mizuno Lone Star Classic (a national qualifying tournament), and the Southwest National Volleyball Championships.

Why be a part of Austin Junior Volleyball?

Austin Junior Volleyball picks the best players in the Central Texas Area to compete locally, regionally, and nationally in USA Volleyball sanctioned tournaments. The junior volleyball teams that Austin Juniors hosts are a vehicle for young athletes to improve their skills and to be seen by college coaches in hopes of being recruited and receive a college athletic scholarship. Over 330 AJV athletes have continued their volleyball career in college. AJV provides a full-time staff member that is dedicated to assisting its athletes in the recruiting process. Whether you are looking to compete in college or make your school team, Austin Junior Volleyball has the resources to allow you to achieve your goals.

Training

AJV practices are designed to enhance the training and skills needed to compete at the optimal level. Practices are 2 hours for 2-3 times a week depending on the level of team for the 13s and up. Practices are 1 and a half hours for 2 times a week for the 11s and 12s.

Helix Speed, Agility, Quickness Training

Helix Elite Performance is the official Speed, Agility, and Strength Conditioning Training Partner of Austin Junior Volleyball. Together, we have created a program to increase performance and reduce injuries for Austin Junior Volleyball athletes.

The program will focus on improving the athlete's speed, agility, and quickness while also working on their verticals, strength, and balance. This program is highly recommended by the AJV staff and coaches. We believe that the training will help individual athletes improve their play on the court and help teams realize their highest potential.

The AJV teams will perform SAQ session at the location of their "home practice" courts. ASC South location and the Cedar Park North location will be scheduled to compliment their volleyball practice schedule.

Work Program and/or Financial Assistance

AJV hosts many local, regional and national events where athletes and their families can work to earn money towards their player dues. For more information regarding either of these program, please email Urissa Stephens.

State of the Art Video Equipment

AJV has installed state of the art video analysis equipment to assist athletes in analyzing and improving their technique.

Outstanding Facilities

AJV has two state of the art facilities to serve the Central Texas athletes (one facility north and one south) looking to hone their volleyball skills. The Austin Sports Center Cedar Park facility is home to our teams from the north while the Austin Sports Center South facility hosts our teams from the Austin area.

Coaching Staff

AJV is proud of our coaches and we feel it is the strength of our program. AJV coaching is led by Glen Liezke, who has coached all three of AJV's National Championship teams (17 Open in 2011, 17 Open in 2008, and 18 National in 2005). Glen is a former collegiate coach at the University of Texas where he helped train one Player of the Year, nine All-Americans and 14 All-conference Middle Blockers. He has also served as an assistant coach for the USA Youth and Junior National teams.

Our certified coaches include numerous college coaches, experienced high school and junior high coaches, former collegiate and professional athletes. Come train with the best!
